State Representative Matthew Conway (D- E. Granby, Suffield, Windsor) was sworn in by Connecticut’s Secretary of the State this morning as the new State Representative serving the 61st General Assembly district of E. Granby, Suffield, and Windsor.
The ceremony took place at the State Capitol in Hartford during the opening day of the 2009 session of the state legislature.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to apply my education and experience to serve the residents of my district,” Conway said.
Conway has also been appointed by the newly elected Speaker of the House Christopher G. Donovan (D-Meriden) to serve on the Energy and Technology, Judiciary, and Education Committees. Conway holds both doctoral and masters degrees in Education Administration, Masters program in Criminal Justice, and a Bachelor of Science in Technology Education.
“This is going to be a challenging session because of the effect that the global economic crisis is having on our state,” Conway remarked. “We must work together to protect Connecticut residents and seek their best interests as we tackle these challenges. I am confident that by working in an honest, bipartisan manner we can help Connecticut get through these trying times.”
Prior to his election, Conway served for eight years as Suffield Police Commissioner, and served for twenty years as Teacher, Principal, and Director with Unified School District #1 and the Department of Corrections.
The entire membership of the state legislature serves two-year terms.
